Kōtuku and Moon Child: Family Puppet Theatre

Kōtuku and Moon Child: Family Puppet Theatre

19th July 2019 - 12:00pm
20th July 2019 - 12:00pm

Basal masks, puppetry and breath-taking original piano music tell a story of a little Moon Child who has to learn to adapt to the strange world of planet Earth. Birdlife Productions have created a story that has grown from their love of myths and fairy tales and shaped and inspired by the light, colours and bird life of their New Zealand home.

Using reams of cloth, found objects and plenty of wonder, this heart-warming adventure crosses boundaries of language and culture, where stories and ideas are communicated non-verbally, but instead through visual imagery and the power of music. For everyone aged 5 to 95 years!

“I have never seen a group of children sit so still and so quietly for so long. Their parents behaved really well too. We have all been entranced” - Katie Hindle, Theatreview
"Balm for the spirit, and it could not be more timely. After the tumultuous fortnight New Zealand has experienced, this spellbinding mime to music comes as a gentle caress from a trusted hand." - Terry MacTavish, Theatrereview
